Award-winning historian, broadcaster, actor and presenter Dr Anthony Delaney brings compelling stories from the past to life across page, screen, stage and audio. Originally from Kilkenny, Ireland, he trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama before completing a PhD in 18th-century social and cultural history at the University of Exeter, where he is now an Honorary Fellow.

His expertise spans the history of gender and sexuality, crime and punishment, the transatlantic slave trade, medicine and monarchy. As Dan Snow puts it: 'Anthony Delaney is a superb public historian.'

His debut book, QUEER GEORGIANS: A HIDDEN HISTORY OF LOVERS, LAWBREAKERS AND HOMEMAKERS (Doubleday/Grove Atlantic), draws on archives and court records to recover the lives of queer people written out of Britain's history, from the women behind Gentleman Jack to figures such as Anne Lister and the Chevalier d'Éon. Lucy Worsley called it 'serious, but immensely readable.' It was a Lambda Literary Awards finalist and is longlisted for the Historical Writers' Association Non-Fiction Crown.

Anthony co-hosts History Hit's AFTER DARK, a podcast exploring history's darker and stranger corners. It won Rookie of the Year at the 2024 True Crime Awards, and Anthony was nominated for Best New Presenter at the 2024 Audio and Radio Industry Awards.

His YouTube series NO TIME LIKE THE PAST releases new episodes every Wednesday and Sunday. It tackles questions from whether Napoleon was really short to who was the better Tudor queen, and it ranges from the fall of the Roman Republic to the Great Irish Famine.

Anthony has lectured for institutions including the National Trust, Sorbonne University and Kensington Palace. He is also an accomplished actor, most recently starring as DS Jordan MacDonald in HARRY WILD (Acorn TV/AMC+) alongside Jane Seymour.
